Community Guidelines

Taleweave stories are written by many hands, so they only work if those hands can trust each other. These are the few things we ask of everyone.

Write with the story, not against it

  • A continuation answers the chapters before it. Twist them, deepen them, surprise readers, but don't wreck the story to make a point.
  • Keep to the story bible and the opener's guidelines. If you disagree with where a story is going, write the better chapter.
  • Only enter writing that's yours. Copying someone else's work, or passing off generated text as your own writing in a round, isn't allowed.

Be decent to the people behind the stories

  • Critique the writing, not the writer. Comments are for readers and writers to talk about the story.
  • No harassment, threats, or piling on. Don't follow someone around the site after they've asked you to stop; if someone blocks you, leave it.
  • No hate: nothing that attacks people for who they are (race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, or the like).
  • Don't share anyone's private information, and don't pretend to be someone you're not.

Dark stories are welcome; say so on the cover

  • Fiction can go to hard places. If a story has graphic violence, sexual content, or themes some readers want warning of, its opener marks it mature and picks the warnings.
  • Write continuations in keeping with how a story is marked. A story that isn't mature stays that way unless its opener changes it.
  • Never: sexual content involving minors; content that encourages self-harm or real-world violence; anything illegal.

No spam

  • No advertising, link-dropping, vote trading, or multiple accounts to sway a vote. One person, one vote.

When something crosses the line

Use Report on a comment, continuation, chapter, story or profile. Moderators look at every report; the writer isn’t told who sent it.

Moderators can take something down (its writer is told why), and suspend accounts that keep crossing the line, for a day, a week, a month, or for good. You can also block a writer from their profile: neither of you will see or reach the other.

Think a decision was wrong? Write to [email protected], and we’ll take another look.
